Constituent Comment: Why did my family member lose direct assistance benefits?

A Dudley constituent recently contacted Senator Moore on behalf of their family member who was inexplicably dropped from receiving food stamps.  Explaining that their family member had no change in income or social security collection status, Senator Moore contacted the Department of Transitional Assistance immediately, and brought a positive change for the constituent and their family member.  Read the conversation below:

Honorable Senator Moore

I am sending this Email for my family member. They recently received a letter from the Massachusetts Department of Transitional Assistance. The letter stated that they were no longer eligible for the Food Stamp benefit. I am a little perplexed by this turn of events. Up until they received this letter, they were receiving this benefit. Their financial income, social security as their only income, has not changed, in fact for the first time in history, there was no social security increase, if I'm not mistaken. It puzzles me that one month they are eligible and now they are not. This person has accrued approximately a $9,000 credit card debt, which goes to pay some of their monthly expenditures, ie (medical co payments, prescriptions, heat and food).

Any assistance on this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much for your time and assistance,

A Dudley Constituent

Dear Dudley Constituent:

I will look into this on Tuesday since tomorrow is a holiday and the DTA offices are closed. We'll try to get to the bottom of it and, hopefully, get the assistance your family member needs.

Senator Moore

As of this morning, my family member received a phone call stating that their food stamp assistance will be in effect starting May 13th.

I would like to extend their appreciation on this matter. Also, I would like to extend mine on your prompt and effective action on our matter. With all the anti-government sentiment brewing out there, myself not included, your actions prove that elected officials can and will work on the people's behalf. Again thank you and your staff for your timely assistance.

Respectfully yours,

A Dudley Constituent
